Brief Introduction

Beijing An Ding Hospital, Capital Medical University (BADH-CMU), was founded in 1914. The hospital, situated near the moat on the north of age-old De Sheng Men, is a large-scale first-rank psychiatric hospital undertaking the tasks of medical service, teaching, scientific research, prevention of mental disorders as well as international academic exchanges. In 2000, the hospital became the first Faculty of Mental Health of the whole country, that is, Faculty of Mental Health of CMU. The hospital occupies 26,988 square meters, and the staff amounts to 771 including 557 doctors and nurses, among whom 58 with high level of professional title?. There are 800 patient beds in all. The hospital has been authorized to cultivate doctoral and master’s degree postgraduate of psychiatry and mental health as well as master’s degree postgraduate of clinical psychology.

The hospital is one of the first national bases of drug registration trials. and continuing education bases of psychiatry designated by Ministry of Health. At present, Chinese Association for Mental Health, Drug Dependence Treatment Center of China, Beijing Municipal Mental Health Agency, Beijing Municipal Child and AdolescentMentalHealthCenter, Beijing Municipal Geriatric MentalHealthCenter, Beijing Municipal Office of Forensic Psychiatry Committee, Beijing Municipal Consultation Center of Mental Health are all affiliated to BeijingAndingHospital.

Special characteristics of the hospital: Considering biological-mental-social medical mode as guideline for specialty construction for a long time, our hospital has taken the lead to establish five teams consisting of psychiatrists, nurses, clinical psychotherapists, social workers, occupation recreational therapists, respectively. Our hospital provides the patients with good condition for the treatment and full rehabilitation by traditional medication as well as an additional variety of comprehensive rehabilitation cares. ?

Besides general psychiatric daily clinics, the hospital has also set up some other characteristic daily clinics for outpatients according to different needs for mental health from different population, such as psychological counseling and psychotherapy, counseling of mental health, family intervention for patients with schizophrenia, mental health for the senile patients and pediatric patients, Chinese traditional medicine, male department (sexual psychology), psychosomatic disease (department of gynecology, general practitioner)? , special daily clinics and so on. In January 2006, the first depression center in China was established in BeijingAndingHospital. In 2005, the sum of outpatients amounts to more than 210,000 person-times.

BeijingAndingHospital has been undertaking the psychiatric medical tasks for Beijing city and some other cities and provinces in the country, particularly outpatient and inpatient services for acute and severe mental disorders, consultation services for intractable metal disorders, liaison consultation with general hospitals, psychological counseling, psychotherapy and psychological intervention of sudden disastrous events.

Under the guideline of thriving on science and technology, BeijingAndingHospital has ever been intensifying the introduction of professionals of high level and equipments and has established six major research teams including clinical psychiatry, clinical psychopharmacology, mental rehabilitation, clinical psychology, fundamental psychiatry, psychiatry of Chinese traditional medicine combined with Western medicine. The clinical psychopharmacological laboratory stands the leading position among the hospitals of the same kind all over the country. The scientific research projects undertaken by Beijing Anding Hospital includes 11-5 Project of Early Recognition and Early Intervention of Depression which funded by National Ministry of Science and Technology, National Foundation for Nature Science, Beijing Municipal Foundation for Nature Science, Major Projects of Beijing Municipal Sci-Tech Committee, Major Projects of Capital Scientific Research Foundation for the Development of Medical Sciences, Projects of Fundamental and Clinical Scientific Research of CMU, and so on.

Furthermore, Beijing Anding Hospital also undertakes many tasks of prevention and control of mental disorders and carries out the epidemiological survey of mental disorders in Beijing; participates in formulating the schemes of the development of mental health work in Beijing; acts as the main technological organization of Beijing Post-disaster Mental Health Intervention Network Center and offers the people suffering from disasters the service of mental health crisis intervention; participates in enacting mental health related laws, rules and policy of Beijing; instructs all districts, counties and communities to carry out the tasks of mental health care, and develops the operation of quality monitoring and professional training.

The well-known neuropsychiatrists of old generation like Prof. Chen Xueshi, Zhang Jizhi, Jiang Zuoning, Tian Zuen have set up the solid foundation for the development of psychiatry, and the well-known psychiatrists and mental health experts of middle-age and young generation like Prof. Cai Zhuoji, Weng Yongzhen, Ma Xin, Yang Yunping, Zheng Yi have made great contribution to the advance of Beijing Anding Hospital and the development of mental health career. During the past ten years or so, the hospital has obtained ten Beijing Municipal Third Prizes for Sci-Tech Advancements，one Second Prize for Excellent Teaching Achievement of Colleges and Universities, two First Prizes for Teaching Material of CMU, and the titles of Beijing“95”Advanced Collectivity of Mental Health Work, Beijing Municipal Advanced Collectivity of Popular Science Work as well as Beijing Municipal Advanced Collectivity of Drug Prohibition Work.
